Distant Worlds 2 Update 1

It’s been a week since the launch of Distant Worlds 2 in Elite: Dangerous. I was lucky enough to make it for the North American launch event and take part in the mass jump out of the Pallaeni system. Unlike the European launch, we did not kill the servers (congrats on that by the way Commanders).

I’m glad I was aware of the gravity issues at The View before I entered orbit, but that didn’t stop me from being terrified about the landing. What didn’t help was seeing “Thanks for the repair” in the system chat right as I dropped out of orbital cruise.

While I did take a small part in the mining goal that has been getting crushed, I’ve spent most of my time exploring around. Right now, I’ve been flying straight up, planning to take a look at some of the more remote systems near the top of the galactic curve. I can already see the line between the main cluster of the galaxy and the inky blackness.

I’ve included some pictures below of some highlights I’ve seen so far. For those looking to see the same sights, I’ve made the system names the filename thanks to EDDiscovery, so enjoy my sights, enjoy your own and fly safe.

A set of notable stellar phenomena in an asteroid field. Commanders have taken to calling them Space Caltrops based on the old DnD item.

A beautiful cluster of stars, a nebula, ringed gas giant and an ice geyser (on the planet). I happened to look up and see this grouping and had to get a shot.
